For those vacationers with an eye for adventure seek no further than Zambia. Zambia is a country located in the heart of Africa. It's a place full of mystery. Most people when searching for an exotic location to travel to don't necessarily look to Africa for their vacation needs. However, Zambia holds a secret bounty of beauty and intrigue that is well worth the time and money it takes to get there.

Traveling to Zambia is an adventure in and of itself. If you are from the United States the total travel time can be anywhere from 16 to 30 plus hours depending on the route you take. Most airlines leave out of Washington D.C. and have one stop in either Amsterdam or Paris before heading onto South Africa. Since there is no direct route to Zambia, all flights filter through Johannesburg, South Africa. With so many stops before reaching either Lusaka or Livingstone, Zambia, you can see how the travel time can get extensive and tedious. However, both the European and South African layovers are at beautiful airports that have shopping, restaurants, and bars, so traveling to your destination becomes part of the fun.

While traveling to Zambia is an exciting part of the overall adventure, arriving in Zambia makes you feel like you've just landed on another planet. As soon as your feet hit the ground in Lusaka the smell of campfires and clean air surround you. You can't help but notice the difference in pollution. While Lusaka is a big city, it is still surrounded by miles and miles of bush and a small drive outside of town can make you feel as if you've entered a National Geographic magazine. The bush is such a beautiful place and in the spring all of the flowers are in bloom. One might think that Zambia is a dry desert-like place, but it is the contrary. While there are places where Zambia is dry, most of it is covered in luscious plants that come alive after the rainy season.

Zambia is rich with culture and the people of Zambia are some of the nicest people in the world. Part of their culture is welcoming visitors so you will be treated like royalty when you enter the county.

If you are planning on staying in Livingstone, the best hotel for the money is the Zambezi Sun. For couples and families alike, the Zambezi provides it all. From day trips to the Chobe reserve in Botswana, to walking safari's, to white water rafting trips, there is something for everyone. It's important to note that when you're traveling in Zambia make sure that you do as the locals do. Local eateries are often overlooked for more touristy spots. Get out into town and ask the locals where they eat. It's the best way to get to know the real Zambia.

The number one most beautiful spot in Zambia is of course Victoria Falls. One cannot visit Zambia without partaking in watching the sunset over the Zambezi river, or seeing the falls in all their glory. It is truly one of the most magnificent places in the world and places Zambia at the very top of the list for any adventure traveller. For all visitors that come back from such a once-in-a-lifetime vacation the saying, "Zambia is my second home" holds true. Once bitten by Zambia's mystery and intrigue, you will never want to travel anywhere else.
